Ryan’s Boho Senior Session at Golden Hour Near Lake James, Morganton, NC

Ryan is a gorgeous, stylish senior with a boho vibe that made every photo feel effortless. We spent her session exploring a quiet forest at a park in Morganton, North Carolina, before heading to a sunlit field of pampas grass near Lake James. Both spots were a perfect match for her wild, creative spirit and gave us the kind of scenery that makes you want to slow down and soak it all in.

The First Meeting and Building Trust

I had very little face time with Ryan before the session, which made it even more meaningful when she placed so much trust in me right from the start. Her mom had called before booking and shared how important it was to find the right photographer—someone who could create portraits that were truly unique and captured Ryan’s personality. From the moment we began at the Morganton park, it was clear that Ryan was creative and kind, with an effortless sense of style. Her boho, wild-child energy came through in every image, and even without a long history between us, I could feel her adventurous spirit.

Natural Movement and Creative Freedom

Ryan moved with a natural grace in front of the camera. She needed no posing cues, only subtle direction, and she trusted me completely. That trust gave me the freedom to create without second-guessing, to try things I might not attempt in every session. When the flow between photographer and subject is that natural, it allows for portraits that feel alive and unforced.

Golden Hour in Morganton, NC

The day itself could not have been more perfect for photography in Morganton. It was early fall, with warm golden light flooding the scene just before sunset. That glow wrapped gently around Ryan, highlighting her features and making the entire setting feel cinematic. Her wardrobe choices were the perfect reflection of who she is—creative, vintage-inspired, and easygoing. She carried herself with a quiet confidence, never relying on bright colors or flashy details to stand out.

Finding the Pampas Grass Field at Lake James

One of my favorite parts of the day was our spontaneous hunt for the perfect pampas grass field near Lake James. Ryan trusted me enough to hop in the car and drive along a local highway until we found one that caught the light just right. It was a location I had never photographed before, and when we arrived, it felt like the setting had been waiting for her. The way the late sun filtered through the plumes created a dreamy, ethereal backdrop that elevated the entire session.


Reflecting on Ryan’s Senior Year

Looking back at these images now, I see a young woman who was confident in herself, sure of her place in the world, yet grounded and humble. Her parents raised someone truly remarkable, and it was an honor to create this visual chapter of her story.
